Schenectady man gets 7 years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend

A Schenectady man was sentenced Friday to 7 years in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in their home last year.

Dexter Silen pleaded guilty in April to two counts of attempted first-degree assault to satisfy a 10-count indictment for the Dec. 4, 2003, home invasion. Silen broke into her apartment and began hitting and stabbing her and her new boyfriend, according to the Schenectady County District Attorney's Office.

The victims' injuries are not life-threatening.

Silen left the scene but was found by police the next day. He still wore clothes marked with the victims' blood, police said.

Silen must also serve 5 years of post-release supervision and protective orders have been issued preventing him from contacting the victims.
