Scammer scams Lagos teen after she gets her boyfriend pregnant

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said it has prevented a 19-year-old girl from committing suicide with a substance suspected to be insecticide after she lost her hard-earned money to a fraudster and was abandoned by the man who impregnated her in Ikorodu area of ​​Lagos State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, said police officers attached to Ikorodu Area Command rescued the lady following a tip-off.

He said: “Officers of Ikorodu Area Command rescued a 19-year-old woman who was about to commit suicide.

“On June 29, 2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a concerned citizen informed law enforcement that a young girl was attempting suicide by ingesting a harmful chemical…

“Reacting quickly to the information, officers were dispatched to the scene where the girl was found and prevented from harming herself.”

Hundeyin explained that after saving the lady, she confessed that emotional distress influenced her decision to consider attempting suicide.

He said: “She revealed she had been impregnated by a man who then refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

“In addition, she had been the victim of a fraudster who had defrauded her of her income from her point of sale business, which had further aggravated her emotional and financial difficulties.

“The young woman is currently receiving the necessary psychological support while the investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her situation.

The command also wants to stress the importance of mental health awareness and encourages anyone facing similar challenges to seek help quickly.
