SC rejects Conman's alleged wife Sukesh Chandrasekhar's plea

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition by Leena Paulose, wife of alleged fraudster Sukesh Chandrashekhar, challenging a Delhi High Court decision to defer her bail appeal in the Rs 200 crore extortion case. A vacation bench comprising Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and Augustine George Masih stressed that fast-track proceedings in the matter could not be demanded.

“The petition for special leave is denied. The pending petitions will also be dismissed,” the bench said in its June 14 order. Paulose had filed a complaint against the May 20 order of the High Court, which postponed his bail hearing to July. The court noted that his plea was filed on May 14 and a notice was issued on May 20.

“You have been in jail for two years and eight months, the moment you appear in court, you need an order,” the Supreme Court observed. When Paulose's lawyer asked the apex court to expedite the proceedings, the bench responded: “It is not up to us to organize the High Court board.”

According to the prosecution, Chandrashekhar and Paulose allegedly ran an organized crime syndicate with their associates since 2013, aiming to obtain financial gain through fraud and extortion. Both were arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2021 for their alleged involvement in the scam and are currently in police custody.
