Santa Rosa police seize weapons cache during home search

A Santa Rosa man is suspected of illegally manufacturing and possessing a cache of firearms and rifles seized by police Tuesday.

Bon Kim, 44, was arrested at a home in the 500 block of El Capitan Way, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

He is suspected of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, manufacturing and possession of an assault weapon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, importing a weapon in California, possession of an expandable baton and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

According to police, an investigation began in late April when authorities “intercepted” a weapon part that Kim allegedly imported from China.

After executing a search warrant Tuesday, investigators, including Homeland Security agents and a U.S. postal inspector, searched Kim's residence, authorities said.

They found “numerous evidence of firearms trafficking and manufacturing,” police said.

Among the items found in the home, police said, were several 3D printers, spools of filament, drill presses, fabrication tools and “numerous privately manufactured firearms.”

Kim is suspected of possessing 19 firearms, including two described as short-barreled assault weapons, as well as high-capacity magazines and ammunition.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
