Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office expresses gratitude to dedicated volunteers and service providers

Santa Barbara, California – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office hosted two events to recognize and thank more than 50 volunteers and service providers from diverse backgrounds who selflessly dedicate their time, skills and compassion to support rehabilitation and well-being. be individuals in our county jails. Volunteers and service providers at the Main Jail were honored on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and at the North Branch Jail on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. This recognition highlights the immeasurable contributions of our volunteers in fostering positive change within of our penitentiary establishments.

Every week, many volunteers come to the prison to supplement traditional programs for inmates. Organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) provide representatives who help guide addiction issues. Prison Yoga Project Santa Barbara offers weekly yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices to reduce the impact of the stress and trauma of incarceration. Several self-awareness courses are offered by chaplains. Educational courses are provided by Allan Hancock and Santa Barbara City colleges. The Pacifica Graduate Institute offers women's writing groups. Planned Parenthood hosts health education workshops and donates all books to the libraries at both prisons. Former Washington Post reporter Scott Wilson leads writing groups. GRID Alternatives offers the solar installation training program. Transitions Mental Health offers programs at the North Branch Jail and the Wellness Center offers programs at the Main Jail. Their unwavering commitment plays a central role in promoting personal growth, resilience and hope among incarcerated people.

Through their tireless efforts, volunteers contribute to the transformative journey of those striving to re-enter society. Their presence not only enhances the rehabilitation environment within our facilities, but also embodies the spirit of community and empathy. During both events, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office expressed its deep gratitude to each of the volunteers for their valuable service. Their dedication illustrates the power of compassion and solidarity to drive positive change in our communities.
