San Rafael woman, 76, arrested after alleged attack

A woman has been arrested after an alleged attack in San Rafael, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened Tuesday near the intersection of North San Pedro Road and Schmidt Lane in the Santa Venetia neighborhood. The alleged victim said the suspect yelled at her, punched her in the face and tried to knock her to the ground, sheriff's Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn.

The women fell and separated, and the suspect left. The police found the suspect at his home. The suspect claimed the victim had been rude to her, Schermerhorn said. The suspect also allegedly tried to hit the deputies.

Carol Jean Furnell, 76, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of battery causing great bodily injury and resisting a public officer. Her bail amount was set at $50,000 and she remained in custody Wednesday.
