The suspect in a shooting on a San Rafael street last month was arraigned Monday on three counts of assault with a firearm.

Police arrested Andy Isoias Arevalo, 18, of San Rafael, for attempted murder after gunfire broke out on May 25. Investigators allege he was involved in an argument on D Street, fired a gun and left.

Members of the targeted group pursued him in vehicles until both drivers crashed into cars parked on B Street, police said. Arevalo allegedly fired several shots and injured one of his pursuers.

Arevalo did not enter a plea Monday. Marin County Superior Court Judge Kelly Simmons appointed attorney Jon Rankin to defend Arevalo and set the next hearing for Thursday.

Rankin and prosecutor Rachel Minarovich declined to comment on the case. Arevalo remains held in the Marin County Jail without bail.
