A suspect has been arrested based on allegations he stole an Amazon delivery van in San Rafael.

The Amazon driver called authorities around 4 p.m. Thursday after seeing the vehicle speeding away on Canal Street, San Rafael police Lt. Scott Eberle said. Officers used the van's geolocation data to locate it in downtown San Rafael.

Police then pursued the suspect until he stopped in an alley and fled. He was arrested near the corner of C Street and Wolfe Avenue. More than 100 packages were missing from the van and investigators were working to find them, Eberle said.

Elijah Payne, 31, of San Rafael, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, violating probation, obstructing police, evading police and transmitting false information to a police officer. He is being held without bail.
