San Mateo shooting: 1 injured, suspect taken into custody after shelter-in-place at Norfolk Street and Hillsdale Boulevard

SAN MATEO, Calif. — One person was taken to a trauma center and a suspect was taken into custody following a shooting Thursday afternoon in San Mateo, police said.

The victim was found a few kilometers away, in San Carlos, and taken to hospital.

“At this time, we can confirm that a gunshot victim was located in San Carlos and was transported to a local trauma center for treatment. There are currently no fatalities,” police said on social media shortly before 7 p.m.

The shooting was first reported around 4:45 p.m. in a San Mateo neighborhood near East Hillsdale Boulevard and South Norfolk Street.

A shelter in place was put in place while police investigated and nearby roads were closed.

During the investigation, police determined the suspect had fled to a nearby apartment and officers were able to negotiate a surrender. This person was taken into custody.

San Mateo police said officers would remain on scene to process the case.
