San Luis Obispo man arrested Monday in connection with attempted murder on June 2

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – On Monday, a 28-year-old San Luis Obispo man was arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Santa Maria on June 2, 2024.

On June 2, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person in a commercial parking lot in the 1700 block of South Broadway, the Santa Maria Police Department said in a news release. press regarding the arrest.

When police arrived, they discovered a 28-year-old man who had been shot several times while crossing the parking lot around 3 a.m., Santa Maria police said.

The 28-year-old man was transported to a local hospital where he remains under treatment, the Santa Maria Police Department shared.

According to the Santa Maria Police Department, detectives identified the 28-year-old San Luis Obispo resident, who worked as a private security guard in the area, as the primary suspect.

The 28-year-old man guarded a construction site in the area and allegedly illegally carried a loaded firearm while working at the site before the shooting, the Santa Maria Police Department detailed.

Law enforcement was never notified of the shooting and the 28-year-old man left the scene before Santa Maria Police Department officers arrived.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., arrest warrants were executed at the 28-year-old's home located in the 200 block of Avila Beach Drive in San Luis Obispo and he was placed in custody without incident, Santa Maria police said. .

Additional evidence related to the investigation was collected at the scene, the Santa Maria Police Department said.

The 28-year-old man was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on attempted murder charges and is currently being held on a $1 million bond shared by the Santa Maria Police Department.
