San Francisco 49ers sign 16 TD offensive weapon Brock Purdy

Monday afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers added a tight end to their roster with 16 career touchdown receptions. The 49ers needed to add depth at tight end after losing a few key players to the Atlanta Falcons this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers lost two tight ends this offseason

As previously reported on GH, the 49ers lost two tight ends from the 2023 season to the Falcons in free agency:

The Falcons signed former 49ers 2020 sixth-round pick Charlie Woerner in March. They added receiver Darnell Mooney in free agency and traded for Rondale Moore. On Monday, they faced a 49ers tight end again.

According to a release from the Falcons, the team signed Ross Dwelley after a tryout on Monday:

Dwelley comes to Atlanta from the San Francisco 49ers, where he joined as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He has played in 84 of a possible 99 regular season games in his six seasons, starting with 17.

The 49ers attempted to sign restricted free agent Brock Wright in free agency. However, the Detroit Lions responded to the offer to retain a highly regarded tight end for the upcoming season. Fortunately, they were able to sign another veteran tight end who can be useful on offense.

49ers set to sign Logan Thomas

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the 49ers are close to signing Logan Thomas:

The #49ers are working to finalize a deal with veteran TE Logan Thomas, according to a source. After a 55-catch season with the #Commanders in 2023, Thomas returns to the NFC West, where he began his career as a QB for the #AZCardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals drafted Thomas in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. At age 32, he recorded 219 receptions for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns. The six-foot-six, 250-pound veteran appeared in 94 games and started in 57. He spent time with the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Lions and Buffalo Bills.
