Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 leak just revealed a key missing feature

Over the past few months, we've come across a number of interesting leaks and rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Unfortunately, the latest leak of an FCC listing is deeply disappointing for a high-end flagship device like the upcoming phone foldable from Samsung.

Based on the FCC certification released today and spotted by Sam Mobile, neither the Galaxy Z Fold 6 nor the Galaxy Z Flip 6 appear to support Wi-Fi 7. This would be a surprising omission, given that the Galaxy S24 Ultra launched by Samsung earlier this year is Wi-Fi 7 certified.

Wi-Fi 7 launched in early 2023. The next-generation wireless standard promises to more than quadruple a network's total bandwidth, and since its release, it has found its way to top routers and other devices like telephones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is said to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with built-in Wi-Fi 7 support. The currently available S24 Ultra also has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. A number of other foldable phones already support Wi-Fi 7, including the OnePlus Open (the entire current OnePlus lineup is Wi-Fi certified -Fi 7) and the Vivo X Fold3 Pro. Google's Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are also Wi-Fi 7 certified.

Based on the FCC listing, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will support 5G, ultra-wideband, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Galaxy Z Fold is Samsung's first foldable device, tied with the Galaxy S24 Ultra among premium phones sold by Samsung. We expect the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to have the same $1,799 price tag as its predecessor, and it seems strange that a phone with such a high price tag would ignore Wi-Fi 7.

There is speculation that Samsung will launch a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra edition, and it is possible that Samsung wants additional features to make this phone stand out. Still, this doesn't adequately explain why the phone maker would remove connectivity available on other Samsung devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are expected to appear at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which most observers believe will take place in July. Next we'll find out what kind of network support Samsung's most expensive phone will have on board.
