Saint Ann man accused of raping teenage girl he met on Instagram

Jamaica: A teenage girl was allegedly the victim of rape and kidnapping in Saint Ann by a 26-year-old man. The victim came in contact with the accused through a social media platform called Instagram. They both decided to actually meet during the alleged crime for which the defendants were charged on Saturday June 8.

The man accused of allegedly raping and kidnapping a teenage girl in Saint Ann is identified as a videographer by profession. The suspect is known by his name, Shane Thomas, who belongs to the Philadelphia community in Brown's Town, Saint Ann. Saint Ann is a parish in northern Jamaica.

According to the police statement regarding the Saint Ann rape case, the crime against the teenager took place on Tuesday, June 4 around 1:00 p.m. That day, both of them decided to meet in Brown's Town, who were already in contact. Specific details of the teenage victim are not disclosed by the police department in its statement.

It is mentioned that the victim girls and the accused were in contact since May 15, 2024. They both came in contact through Instagram, a widely used social media platform. After a few weeks of internet discussions, they agreed to meet in person and decided on the time and place where the crime would ultimately take place.

On that day, around 1 p.m., both parties met at the agreed location where the suspect attacked the girl victim. The suspect allegedly asked the teen to become sexually involved with him. The girl allegedly refused, after which the accused started sexually assaulting her.

Subsequently, the suspect forced the teenager to go to a bridge where he had sex with her against her will. Later, the teenage victim filed a complaint against the suspect and accused him of raping her in the locality of Sainte Ann. The report was registered by the police department and the statement was also recorded according to protocols. Immediately afterwards, an investigation was launched and the accused, Shane Thomas, was arrested for the offense by the police.

The accused was taken into custody by law enforcement officers and the procedure continued. The man has been charged with multiple counts of rape and kidnapping against a Saint Ann teenager. The date for the hearing of the case in court is being finalized.
