Safety Fire Department Hosts Pancake Breakfast to Benefit Hanover Fire Department

SECURITY, Colo. (KRDO) — An annual tradition that helps raise money for Safety Fire Department volunteers will this year be donated to the Hanover Fire Department after a fire nearly destroyed two of the engine compartments at the district's main fire station.

“The fire department is a very small, tight-knit family. What safety is doing today is huge,” said Hanover Fire Department Fire Chief Carl Tatum.

The pancake breakfast is expected to raise about $14,000 for the department, minus event expenses. Several fire departments, including Fort Carson, UC Health Helicopter and the local Veterans Affairs post, came out to support the breakfast. Tickets were $5 per person for a full breakfast.

“They're going to have a hard time recovering from this fire because they lost their equipment, their protective gear and the fire station. So we felt like this was the right thing to do, especially with our partners,” said Interim Fire Chief Glen Silloway.

The support came after the Hanover Fire Department, which responded to a call on June 2, found its station on fire. They estimate the damage is more than $1.5 million, including damage to two fire trucks and fire protection equipment.

“We've got a long way to go, so we'll probably have a year and a half to get there, at least once this is all said and done,” Tatum said.
