Sacramento teen with master's degree to begin doctoral studies in fall

A Sacramento teen is making history, breaking barriers and showing why representation matters. At 18 years old, Tiara Abraham has just received her master's degree in music from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Abraham's family says she is the youngest student to reach this milestone in 2024 on all seven IU campuses. In the fall, she returned to Indiana to begin her doctoral studies. “I was always the youngest in class,” the teen told KCRA 3. Abraham became a member of the High IQ Society at age 4, started college at age 7, graduated graduated from high school at age 13 and transferred to the University of California. Davis as a junior at age 14. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the university at age 16 and sang the national anthem at her graduation ceremony. Trained in opera and Western classical music, Abraham has previously performed internationally at Carnegie. Hall and the Vatican. After earning her doctorate, Abraham says she hopes to perform in opera houses around the world and eventually teach. “There aren’t a lot of South Asians in opera,” she said. “There are only a handful, and so I really feel like it’s important to make my mark in the field for future South Asians who want to get into opera.” The 18-year-old comes from a successful family. In June 2023, KCRA 3 introduced you to his elder brother, Tanishq Abraham, who became one of the youngest people in the world to earn his doctorate. at only 19 years old. He studied biomedical engineering at UC Davis. The siblings' mother, Dr Taji Abraham, said she was very proud of her two children. “I think my humble advice would be to just follow your children’s passion,” she said.
