Sacramento police close I Street near county jail for assault investigation

As we head into summer? GOOD MORNING. My name is DEIRDRE FITZPATRICK and my name is TEO TORRES. WE WANT TO CHECK THIS FORECAST AFTER JUST A PLEASANT DAY YESTERDAY. We'll have that in a moment. But first, we want to get to the latest news from downtown Sacramento, where an assault investigation is underway. RIGHT AWAY. This is happening on I Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets. LET’S GO TO KCRA THREE’S MIKE TESELLE TO FIND OUT MORE. YEAH. AND THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HAVE A BIG IMPACT ON THE MORNING Commute. WE ARE ON J STREET JUST OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE, LOOKING BACK AT THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY MAIN JAIL AND THE NOW CLOSED J STREET FROM SEVENTH STREET TO I-5 AND THE REASON FOR THIS , YOU ALLEGED IT, AN ASSAULT INVESTIGATED. We're still waiting for more details, but we noticed police were focusing on this scene right here a few moments ago. They put up a black canvas tarp to block the view. And that might have something to do with this attack. As I was talking to a gentleman that was here he didn't see it but he said he heard two people fighting then after the police responded he says he further heard to say that potentially a weapon had been used here, a knife in this assault. So this is a whole part of this investigation that is not confirmed information from the police, but this is what a witness here told me who was downtown when this happened. So for now, what you need to know is if you're a morning commuter, J Street, a major thoroughfare to access I-5, completely closed and again, it's this area , is not it ? Um, right next door. Seventh and Sixth streets, right in front of the Sacramento Main Jail. So it's in this situation that we continue to try to piece together exactly what's going on leading up to the investigation into the assault here. But as far as potential traffic impacts, let's bring in Brian HICKEY, because Brian, uh, J Street can be a major corridor in trying to access the highway. CERTAINLY. And MIKE, is that Ice Street behind you or J Street? J STREET WOULD BE THE I'M SORRY, I WANT TO WANT YEAH, BRIAN, I WANT TO WANT ICE STREET. Um, heading towards I-5, J Street, which of course enters. We were on J Street and we had two here. SORRY ABOUT THAT. Okay, I know it's early. I know you just got there, so Ice Street is closed. And of course, as Mike said, it's the route to I-5. So for now, between Sixth and Seventh Street, it's going to be closed. And we will certainly keep you informed when they reopen. AN EASY SOLUTION WOULD BE JUST TO GO A FEW BLOCKS, KEEPING IN MIND THE ONE WAY STREETS THERE TOO, LIKE STREET J GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. We have a five vehicle crash on westbound 80 that is now starting to cause some delays just past Chile. YOU CAN SEE SOME VEHICLES ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER, INCLUDING EMERGENCY VEHICLES. The lanes are open, but people are slowing down as they should. WITH THIS WORK THAT HAPPENS ON THE SHOULDER. And you can see just this little yellow spot there. SO NOT A SIGNIFICANT DELAY. WESTBOUND 1580, IT LOOKS GOOD COMING FROM THE FOLSOM ROSEVILLE AREAS. NO PROBLEM ON THIS WESTBOUND ROUTE TO SACRAMENTO. OF COURSE. Just if you exit I-5 and 99 heading north, you also look good out of Elk Grove with no problems to report there. STOCKTON IS QUIET THIS MORNING. NO SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM THERE. WE'RE SEEING A LITTLE DELAY ON 88. DON'T SEE ANY REPORTS OF ACCIDENTS THERE, HOWEVER. PROBABLY RELATED TO CONSTRUCTION THERE. WESTBOUND 205 38 MINUTES. NOW 580 27 MINUTES AND 99 A 14 MINUTE JOURNEY FROM MODESTO TO MANTECA AN
