Ryan Garcia cites incredible stress after arrest for criminal vandalism

Ryan Garcia, in a statement released through a publicist, spoke out a day after he was arrested for criminal vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Following his arrest, the 25-year-old boxer was transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment, according to a statement provided by Beverly Hills police. No information was provided on his condition.

“You know I have faced incredible stress, pressure and now devastating news regarding my mother's health,” Garcia said in the statement released Sunday by a reporter, Sarah Fink.

Garcia's mother, Lisa, revealed last week that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer during what has been a turbulent time for the boxer.

He faces possible suspension after testing positive for a banned substance the day before and the day of his April 20 fight against Devin Haney. Garcia's legal team blamed the positive test on contaminated supplements.

For several weeks leading up to his fight with Haney, Garcia exhibited erratic behavior, then pulled off a significant upset with a majority decision victory.

In the statement released Sunday, Garcia also said. “It's always love. Thank you to my fans for always supporting me…Love and compassion wins. Always.”
