Russian jamming cripples high-tech US weapons in Ukraine – Firstpost

Many U.S.-made satellite-guided munitions in Ukraine have been rendered ineffective by Russian jamming technology, prompting kyiv to stop using some Western-supplied weaponry after their missile defense rates fell. effectiveness, according to senior Ukrainian military officials and confidential internal assessments obtained by The Washington Post.

Russia's jamming of advanced Western weapons guidance systems, such as the Excalibur GPS-guided artillery shells and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), has significantly weakened Ukraine's capability to defend its territory. This jamming affects weapons with ranges of up to 50 miles and has prompted Kiev officials to urgently seek help from the Pentagon for upgrades from weapons manufacturers.

Russia's jamming tactics have compromised Ukraine's ability to defend its territory, as it has failed to use high-tech Western weapons, such as the Excalibur GPS-guided artillery shells and the of High Mobility Artillery Rockets (HIMARS), forcing Ukrainian officials to request improvements from the Pentagon. and arms manufacturers urgently. This capability allowed Moscow to regain the initiative and advance on the battlefield.

HIMARS rocket launchers, supplied to Ukraine by the United States, have become “totally ineffective” due to Russian electronic jamming systems. These launchers, capable of firing American-made rockets up to 50 miles, fell victim to the electronic warfare strategy of Vladimir Putin's forces.

The Russian jamming system operates from the ground, projecting a “cone” of interference into the sky, preventing these weapons from communicating with satellites to precisely guide them to their targets.

The documents obtained by The Washington Post also reveal that the success rate of US-designed Excalibur shells fell to less than 10% before the Ukrainian military stopped using them last year. HIMARS launchers, capable of firing American-made rockets up to 50 miles, have also been rendered “totally ineffective” by Russian electronic jamming systems.

This development has far-reaching implications for Ukraine and its Western allies, and could serve as a model for adversaries such as China and Iran. This is a key factor for Moscow's forces to regain the initiative and advance on the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden's administration announced an additional $275 million in military aid to war-torn Ukraine. This announcement comes as kyiv is struggling to slow down the advance of Russian troops in the Kharkiv region.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the package on Friday and said the proposal was reviewed by two US officials on Thursday. He said the aid was part of our efforts to help Ukraine repel the Russian assault near Kharkiv.”
