Rumford man arrested again after new evidence of child molestation found

An Oxford County grand jury has returned a total of nine counts against a Rumford man already accused of crimes against a child under 18. Raymond Hoyt was 82 years old when he was arrested on June 28, 2023, after a report of sexual abuse. reported to Maine Child Protective Services. The Rumford Police investigation that immediately began led to a charge of unlawful sexual touching and a charge of domestic violence assault. As a result of the joint investigation by Rumford Police and the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, authorities said they discovered new evidence of crimes committed against four additional children. The criminal acts allegedly occurred between 2004 and 2014 in Rumford, Mexico and Bethel. The findings of the investigation were filed before a grand jury, which then handed down a total of nine counts, including the two previous counts dating from 2023. Now 83 years old, Hoyt is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 12 years of age.
