Ruidoso, New Mexico fire is over 7,000 acres, 0% contained – updated Tuesday, May 28

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Blue 2 Fire grew to over 7,000 acres with 0% containment as of Tuesday, May 28, according to the Blue 2 Fire Facebook page.

According to the Facebook page, the fire is currently producing more smoke and continues to be active day and night due to hot temperatures and drought.

The fire is located in the White Mountain Wilderness area, 8 miles north of Ruidoso.

The fire grew to 7,178 acres and was started by lightning on May 16, according to the Facebook page.

There are currently 533 people on site with 32 engines, six helicopters, five water boats and six bulldozers taking part in the operation.

“Firefighters continue to use direct tactics to build a fire line along the fire using hand tools and bulldozers while ensuring the safety of all crews. Aerial assets drop water and retardants along fire lines for reinforcement purposes and to cool the most active portions of the fire. A feller buncher is being used in the Ski Run Road area to remove debris and allow crews access for removal efforts. Firefighters continue to place sprinklers and hoses around homes to protect structures,” the Facebook page states.
