Rubio on the State Department's 2024 human trafficking report

June 25, 2024 | Press Releases

Each year, the U.S. Department of State releases its report on human trafficking. This report assesses countries' efforts to combat human trafficking and identifies the most effective strategies to reduce the widespread scourge of modern slavery.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a statement regarding the Department of State's 2024 Human Trafficking Report.

  • “It is scandalous to see an increase in the harmful practices of human trafficking around the world. With technological advancements, we see this category of human rights violations progressing at a faster pace.
  • “The Cuban criminal regime, through its so-called medical brigades, continues to operate a system of modern slavery that subjects medical personnel to forced labor and unimaginable hardships. The drug trafficking regime in Venezuela, now a Tier 3 country, has failed to demonstrate its commitment to combating human trafficking in our region. Nicaragua's authoritarian dynasty has transformed its country into a hub of mass illegal migration. Communist China's modern slavery project, as it continues its acts of genocide against Uyghurs and other minorities, reaffirms that Beijing continues to benefit from forced labor and seeks to taint our supply chain.
  • “The concerns listed in this report regarding these heinous crimes must be translated into concrete actions to counter these abuses. »
