Rpf: the RPF saves 14 children in Daltonganj | Ranchi News

Daltonganj: In the last six months, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued 14 children, including seven girls, from Daltonganj railway station and Garhwa Road junction railway station under the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway, RPF Chief Inspector Banarasi Yadav said. The rescued children were aged between 8 and 12 years. The RPF focuses on rescuing children who are stranded, hungry, nervous and vulnerable to exploitation. Speaking to TOI, he said, “If we are in uniform, such a child is afraid of us, but when we are in civilian clothes, he mistakes us for a passenger and narrates his ordeal.” Among the rescued children, one hailed from Singrouli, Madhya Pradesh, and the other from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. Both the children could not explain how they reached Daltonganj railway station. Two other rescued children could not provide information about their origins or parents. Sources at Daltonganj railway station revealed that one of the rescued children was from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. The child had run away from home and was being exploited by a man who provided him with food and shelter but forced him to steal passengers’ belongings. The man kept the stolen goods, while the child was given only Rs 50 per day. The child’s parents in Sahibganj refused to take him back and he was later handed over to the local child protection committee. In March, the RPF and the National Commission for Women signed a memorandum of understanding to combat human trafficking. Around 70 per cent of trafficking victims are girls and women.
