Rottweiler Found After 19 Days Missing In Mark Twain National Forest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A family went to great lengths to find their lost dog.

The Manning family lost one of their Rottweilers during a camping trip to Glade Top. And they ended up camping much longer than expected so they could bring her home.

Kimchi is a prized Czechoslovakian rottweiler, who usually looks broad and full-faced, but after spending 19 days lost in Mark Twain's forest, she looked very different.

Her owner, Jacob Manning, says, “She lost about 40 pounds.

The ordeal began in early May when Kimchi failed to return to Manning's campsite with their other dogs.

He tells us: “She never came back. The other two did and I had to go back to work two days later, so I had to leave.

But Jacob and his family didn’t stay gone long.

“We just kept camping up there every day and evening.”

Jacob's posts on the Lost and Found page sparked several sightings of Kimchi as she moved through the thick forest.

“A lot of people said they saw her in Bradleyville, so we went camping in Bradleyville. One day we followed her up the river for over a kilometer and she was so scared that she kept staying in front of us and I couldn't catch up.

Kimchi's hunger finally turned things around, 19 days later.

“We just started throwing bratwursts out the window and then she saw my wife and when she saw her she came and jumped in the car and you could see she was just relieved.”

She was also injured, possibly from an animal attack.

Jacob said, “She had bites behind her ear, I guess from coyotes. Right here, see up there. This whole side of his head was covered in blood.

Kimchi is on the mend now, gaining more weight every day. And Jacob says he's gained a lot of respect and love for the found objects community that helped bring his family together.

“I was shocked. I didn't think people would help the way they did. It was good to see humanity coming together and just wanting to find the dog.
