Ross High School student killed in Butler County crash

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A 17-year-old has been identified following a fatal weekend crash.

Briana Tzeiranakis, 17, died at Cincinnati Children's Hospital after being airlifted from the scene of the crash on Cincinnati Brookville Road in Morgan Township, according to the Butler County Sheriff's Office .

She was a student at Ross High School, Principal Brian Martin said in a message sent to families.

“Briana was a bright light in our school, known for her kindness, intelligence and sense of humor,” Martin described. “She touched the lives of many and her absence will be deeply felt by all of us.”

The accident that cost Tzeiranakis his life occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 26.

Sheriff Richard Jones said Tzeiranakis was a passenger in a 2022 Honda Civic driven by a 16-year-old.

The Civic went off the right side of the road and then struck a utility pole, the sheriff said.

Both Tzeiranakis and the teenage driver wore seat belts. Sheriff Jones said the 16-year-old did not go to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, but Sheriff Jones says drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

“Losses like this are never easy to understand, and it is important that we come together as a community to support each other,” Martin said in his message. “Please keep Briana’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this incredibly difficult time.”

Counselors will be available at Ross High School on May 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. for everyone, Principal Martin added.
