Ronald Reed Millsaps suspect in shooting of two BCSO deputies faces charges June 12, 2024

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – A suspect is facing multiple charges after two Blount County deputies were injured in a shooting before a standoff at a Rockford area home Tuesday.

Ronald Reed Millsaps59, was taken into custody around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday and was charged with aggravated assault, attempted criminal homicide, including aggravated kidnapping, and reckless endangerment.


Tuesday afternoon, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Jacob Springs Boulevard in the Rockford area to respond to a call of shots fired . According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, Millsaps fired at responding deputies and struck two deputies.

These two deputies were rescued and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Last updated, agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the circumstances of the shooting at the request of Fifth Judicial Attorney General Ryan Desmond.

The shooting comes four months after two other Blount County deputies were shot, one fatally, while conducting a traffic stop.
