ROGER MILLS SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ASSAULTING HIS WIFE AND SISTER – 3B Media News

Roger Mills (68), of Kingston, was charged by Roane County Sheriff's Office Investigator Greg Scalf with aggravated assault for a domestic situation involving Mills' wife, Tracey Mills, on 21 August 2020. Mills strangled his wife and wouldn't let her leave their Kingston home, hitting her with a hammer on her knees and ankles. After setting bail, he then assaulted his sister, Sherry Mills, by attempting to strangle her as well on March 9, 2022. ORCR Investigator John Mayes also charged Roger Mills with aggravated assault.

The cases were scheduled to go to trial in March 2024, but Mills ended up pleading to both aggravated assault charges.

A sentencing hearing was held Monday during which ADA Jonathan Edwards pleaded for five years in both cases involving the wife and sister, asking the court to impose the full five years and carry out the sentences consecutively. Edwards asked the Court to “ignore the fact that the defendant is older, in this case, almost 69 years old, and to impose the longer sentence due to the heinous and personal nature of the two attacks, the cases of strangulation which testify to uncontrolled anger and violence”.

Roane County Criminal Court Judge Jeff Wicks agreed and handed down both sentences one after the other for an effective prison term of ten years. The District Attorney's Office decided to revoke the initial bond he issued and released after the second attack in March 2022. Mills has been in continuous custody since then and will now be transported to jail.
