Rochester Man Convicted of Repeatedly Sexually Assaulting Child

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – A 74-year-old Rochester man was sentenced today in Olmsted County Court for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young child.

Robert Charles Baker recently pleaded guilty to a felony charge of first-degree sexual conduct. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Olmsted County prosecutors agreed to drop their request for a higher sentence in the case.

The criminal complaint against Baker alleges that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl on multiple occasions between January and August 2022. According to the court document filed in February of last year, Baker became the target of an investigation after Rochester police were contacted by a Mayo Clinic doctor who reported that a young female patient “had potentially been sexually assaulted.”

Among the evidence against Baker, the victim identified him as the person who raped her. Investigators also said the young victim “possessed an inappropriate and complete knowledge of human sexuality” while describing the sexual abuse she suffered.

The charges also included as evidence audio and video recordings from a security system installed at Baker's home. The criminal complaint says the recordings captured conversations between the young victim and Baker in which he discussed his plans to sexually assault the child.
