Roadworks prevent left turns on busy West Kellogg bridges

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Expect traffic delays on two bridges that connect West Kellogg, U.S. 54 and U.S. 400 to the airport and all the restaurants and businesses near Maple and Ridge Road.

Beginning Monday, July 8, maintenance work will begin on the northbound and southbound Eisenhower Airport Parkway bridges. Crews will close the left and center lanes on both bridges, leaving only the right lane open.

No left turns will be allowed until the left lanes are closed. Bridges are usually very busy, especially the left turn lanes.

(KSN News Graphic)
  • Drivers leaving businesses and homes north of Kellogg cannot turn left into Kellogg heading east.
  • Drivers leaving Eisenhower National Airport and businesses south of Kellogg cannot turn left into Kellogg heading west.

A Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman said the left-turn ban will last through early August.

KDOT says workers will paint the bridge rails, replace expansion joints and make additional standard repairs.

Bridge rehabilitation began in May with the curved bridge that connects Kellogg westbound to Wichita's Eisenhower National Airport. The curved bridge was closed during the work and has just reopened.

The rehabilitation project will move to the right lanes of the northbound and southbound bridges in August and, weather permitting, is expected to be completed in early November.

The project to repair the three bridges is estimated to cost $1.26 million.
