Road rage shooting outside Plaza Midwood cafe

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A passerby sitting outside a coffee shop at a busy intersection in Plaza Midwood captured a frightening scene that unfolded Monday afternoon in the heart of the neighborhood.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the incident near 1500 Central Ave in the Plaza Midwood community Monday afternoon around 2:48 p.m.


Video published on social networks by @thecheekybeen showed a frightening exchange between two drivers in the middle of a busy intersection in the heart of Plaza Midwood. Passersby sit outside MilkBread, which sits where the now-defunct Dairy Queen once stood.

The video then shows a driver exiting his vehicle with what appears to be a baseball bat type object and banging the object on the trunk of a vehicle in front of him. Moments later, the car hit by the object turned around and a gunshot could be heard coming from that car. Video shows the shooting with what appears to be a bullet striking the driver's side mirror. One victim was transported to an area medical center to be treated for minor injuries, according to the police report. It's unclear how many people were in either car.

Three victims are listed in the police report. $500 in damage was reported to a Toyota RAV4, which appears to be the vehicle struck by gunfire. An amount of $200 was declared on a second unidentified vehicle.

There is no mention of an arrest or suspect at this time and this remains an active investigation.
