Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Alexander Ravy Vanny arrested for alleged rape of volunteer and released on bond

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A Riverside County sheriff's deputy was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a volunteer released Monday on $1 million bail, authorities said.

Deputy Alexander Ravy Vanny, 33, of Hemet, was booked into Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Saturday on suspicion of forcible rape, kidnapping to commit rape and forcible oral copulation, according to a release Press.

Vanny posted bond Sunday morning.

According to sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Mike Kelleher on Friday, a woman identified only as a Sheriff's Department volunteer, “confided…in a deputy about a sexual assault that occurred” on an unspecified date. Kelleher alleged the victim identified Vanny as her attacker, but did not release further details.

The deputy who received the information reported it to his superiors, after which an investigation was opened by the sheriff's Special Victims Unit, leading to the conclusion that “Vanny (had) committed an assault sexual assault against the victim,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. .

The suspect was taken into custody without incident on Acacia Avenue in Hemet Saturday afternoon.

He was immediately placed on unpaid administrative leave pending possible criminal prosecution and adjudication of the case.

According to sheriff's officials, tVanny was hired in May 2016 and his most recent assignment was at the Hemet station.

“The Sheriff’s Office condemns any form of sexual misconduct involving its on- or off-duty personnel and remains steadfast in its commitment to deter and prevent such behavior,” the press release states.
