Ripon firefighters monitor barn fire near Highway 120

San Joaquin County firefighters have been monitoring a barn fire since Sunday

I'll come back to you, Brian. THANK YOU. RIGHT NOW IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS ARE LETTING A LARGE BARN FIRE BURN. HOWEVER, THEY ARE KEEPING VERY CLOSE MONITORING WITH HEAT AND WIND EXPECTED TODAY. IT'S ON AGRA FARMS ROUTE 120. IT'S been BURNING FOR OVER A DAY NOW. MELANIE WINGOS LIVES NEAR RIPON AND JOINS US TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS FIRE. Hello Melanie. GOOD MORNING. And I just talked to the battalion chief at Ripon Fire who says that's something that they're monitoring closely, especially because they have this dry brush, just south of the fire itself, and they have a structure. WEST OF THE BURNING FIRE. And then some houses on the east side. And if you look at the smoke this thing is putting out, you'll understand why they want to make sure people are aware of it. TO HAVE ARRIVED AND GO, TO BE, uh, let yourself be burned. THIS SMOKE THAT IS SET IN THE SKY IS VERY ATTRACTIVE. SO PEOPLE SEE IT FROM THE ROAD. WE WANT TO SHOW YOU A VIDEO THAT WE CAPTURED WHEN WE GET HERE. AND THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE FOR WELL OVER 24 HOURS. THIS FIRE STARTED ON SUNDAY AROUND 10:00 P.M. AND THE FIREFIGHTERS ALLOWED IT TO BURN. I have been in contact with Ripon Fire, and they say they are monitoring it closely, and will be for at least the next day. AND THEN POTENTIALLY RETURN THE EFFORTS TO THE OWNERS. And they could be responsible for making sure it doesn't spread. THEY HAVE A VERY WELL CONTENT IN THE VERY BARN WHERE THERE ARE, WE'RE TOLD, ALMONDS AND NUTS THAT HAVE BEEN PROCESSED. WE WILL FIND OUT MORE AS THE DAY GOES. BUT YES, BACK HERE LIVE, WE WANT TO SHOW YOU ONE OF THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF IS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE THEY ARE COMING TO THIS STOP SIGNAL, PEOPLE ARE SO TAKEN UP GUARDED BY SMOKE AND FLAMES. THAT ARE SET UP BY THIS, THAT WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE TURN AND DO A LOOKY LOO TYPE SITUATION AND IT'S A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION THAT THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE KNOW THAT THIS IS HAPPENING AND THAT THE FIRE CREAMS ARE KEEPING CONTROL. Again we contacted the battalion chief. WE WILL FIND OUT MORE COMING IN THE NEXT
