“Ring of fire” brings spotty showers daily

High pressure extends across the East Coast and extends westward into Kentucky and Tennessee. This puts the Ozarks outside the “heat dome” for a few days this week. Still, warm conditions in the upper 80s can be expected this week.

This type of configuration is favorable for isolated, ephemeral rain showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the day. Most places will remain dry, but some areas could see their plans ruined by a random downpour. This pattern is known as a “ring of fire” where spotty rain showers surround an area of high pressure. This will be the case until Wednesday.

The weather pattern until Wednesday therefore appears quite similar from one day to the next. Temperatures will reach the upper 80s to near 90° with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Winds will also be breezy from the south between 10 and 20 mph.

On Thursday, the heat dome begins to retreat towards the west and we will see our temperatures gradually rise to end the week. Daily rain chances also decrease Thursday through Saturday. 90° officially remains elusive in Springfield and we'll have another chance to hit it during this stretch.

A strong surface cold front heading into Sunday this weekend could briefly end our warmer trend. This front will also be our next best chance for widespread rain and thunderstorms.
