Rideshare driver killed in shooting identified (Photo)

The rideshare driver killed in Tuesday night's shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood has been identified as Joshua Kelvin, 42, of Aumsville, Oregon. His family was informed of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but have provided the attached photo for public release.

The man killed in the shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood Tuesday night was a driver for a ride-sharing company.

Detectives confirmed the driver was working as a rideshare operator when he was shot. The passenger, a 17-year-old man, was on board. The victim remains in hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. PPB is not identifying the specific rideshare company at this time.

The driver's name will be released after his family has had time to notify next of kin. The medical examiner determined he died of a homicide by gunshot.

The suspect(s) left the scene before police were called and no arrests were made. A homicide investigation is underway after a shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood that left one person dead and a teenager seriously injured.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:56 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a shooting in the 5700 block of Southeast 130th Place. When officers arrived, they found two victims who had been shot while sitting inside a vehicle. One of the victims, an adult man, died at the scene. Officers provided trauma first aid to the other victim, a teenager, until paramedics arrived and transported him to an area hospital in critical condition.

Portland Police Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Detective JD McGuire at [email protected] or Detective Brent Christensen at [email protected]. Please reference file number 24-137851.

During the investigation, Southeast Ramona Street will be closed near the intersection with Southeast 130th Place.

The identity of the victim will be released after the medical examiner confirms the cause of death and family members have been notified. The PIO does not respond to the scene. Further information will be released as appropriate.
