RI man flees Cape Cod traffic stop, faces drug charges

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Rhode Island man faces multiple drug and gun charges after fleeing a Cape Cod traffic stop over the weekend.

On Sunday at 9:45 p.m., two Barnstable police officers stopped a Jeep SUV after seeing the driver commit “several” traffic violations on Main Street in Hyannis.

Officers spoke with the driver, Frenyi Mieses, 25, of Providence. When they returned to their vehicle to run a computer check of his license status, Mieses sped away from the checkpoint at “a high rate of speed,” police said.

Officers were able to catch up with Mieses about a mile down the road, where they stopped the car again and removed him from the Jeep.

When officers checked the interior of the car, they noticed the dashboard appeared altered and eventually discovered a hidden compartment containing a handgun, 45 grams of fentanyl and four grams of cocaine.
