WARWICK – Rhode Island farmers markets attract a pretty loyal following, especially among shoppers looking for the freshest food available.

“I try to come to this one every week,” Xenia Murphy said Friday as she picked up Lucky Foot Ranch produce from the Saunderstown Farm tent at the Goddard Memorial State Park Farmers Market. “I like that everything is local and it’s not packaged in plastic.”

Nikki Pellegrino, market manager and Lucky Foot farmhand, is impressed by the dedication of farmers' market shoppers.

“People are very involved,” Pellegrino said. “I'm surprised how much people care about where their food comes from. They know the difference between our products and what's on the market.”

Rhode Island shoppers looking for that difference in farm-fresh produce rarely need to look far, with around 40 farmers' markets operating at least until some time in August in all 39 cities and towns across the state , with at least one market open somewhere in the state. , whatever the day of the week.
