Revenge shooting suspect faces felony charge in Broward, records show

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A 29-year-old man who got fired from his job and police say returned for revenge is facing a first-degree felony charge on Saturday in Broward County, records show.

Broward Sheriff's Office inmate records show Pembroke Pines police officers arrested Jesus Santiago on Friday and correctional deputies booked him at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Santiago appeared in bond court on Saturday before Broward County Circuit Judge Deborah Carpenter-Toye. His relatives, including his father and mother, appeared in court to ask for leniency.

According to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, Santiago was fired from his job on Thursday, and he returned to his former place of employment, the Halftime Barber, at 15677 Pines Boulevard, on Friday afternoon for a revenge shooting.

Pembroke Pines fire rescue personnel took the victim — who Santiago allegedly shot in the back — to the hospital. The specific charge he was facing and the victim's condition weren't clear Saturday afternoon.

In bond court, Carpenter-Toye found probable cause for attempted first-degree murder. Inmate and court records show Santiago was facing a premeditated murder charge, a first-degree felony.

Carpenter-Toye denied his bond on Saturday. Court records show Broward County Circuit Judge N. Hunter Davis is set to preside over the case.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

This is a developing story. Local 10 News Assignment Desk Editor Joyce Grace Ortega contributed to this report.
