Restaurant accused of shooting arrested again after cutting GPS bracelet, police say

The owner of a North End restaurant accused of firing a gun at a rival was arrested Saturday night after allegedly cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet, police said. Patrick Mendoza, the owner of Monica's Trattoria, was out on bail in connection with a July 12, 2023, shooting on Hanover Street that shattered the glass at Modern Pastry. No one was injured during the incident. Mendoza was taken into custody at 10:15 p.m., 31 North Bennett St. Police said Mendoza had the monitoring device in his possession, but it appeared to have been cut off, according to the police report. When asked why After removing the bracelet, Mendoza said, “I'm tired and I'm fed up,” police said. During his arrest, he also allegedly stated that he “was definitely going to kill someone but (redacted) kept me in the room.” Boston police said Mendoza is expected to face charges in court Monday. Surveillance video obtained by WCVB shows the incident last year. at 257 Hanover St., in which a man fired a gun at another man while he was riding his bike outside the popular business. Mendoza faces charges including assault and battery. Rocco Giovenello, a man who lives upstairs at Modern Pastry, told NewsCenter 5 he was the person shot outside the bakery and had been harassed by Mendoza for years . The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Mendoza's probation in a 2022 assault case involving Giovenello was set to expire on the day of the shooting.
