Residents shaken by shootings, SWAT searches in northeast Raleigh

RALEIGH, North Carolina — Ashby Vandiford was settling in to watch the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race Sunday night when his northeast Raleigh neighborhood was shaken by the arrival of a SWAT team.

“I was grilling two chickens on the grill, something my dad and I have been doing for years, and this SWAT team came,” he said.

Vandiford abandoned the grill and grabbed his phone to capture what was happening.

“The whole neighborhood was pretty much cordoned off,” he said.

Investigators were on Deep Channel Drive for much of the day Sunday after the body of Jeremiah Frazier, 31, was found in a townhouse early that morning. Forensic investigators were seen fingerprinting a vehicle and gathering evidence in a small parking lot.

Frazier was nicknamed “Pete” by close friends and family who mourned the loss of the father and small business owner through memorial posts on social media.

Around 6 p.m. Sunday evening, the situation came to a head and Vandiford was recording.

“I was live on Facebook and I said, 'I'm glad they're protecting our neighborhood because we have three kids. And that's the most important thing to me…and it's very It's important for us to maintain safety.” the neighborhood.”

He saw police surround a house and order those inside to get out.

“You don’t realize when something is going to happen in your neighborhood until it happens,” Vandiford said.

Another neighbor said they were delayed by police before returning home Sunday evening and officers were executing an arrest warrant.

Vandiford said he eventually saw some people go to police.

As of Monday, police have not confirmed anyone in custody in connection with Frazier's death. They would only say that the investigation into his homicide was ongoing.
