Residents intervene after man fatally stabbed in Las Vegas

Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Tuesday afternoon near East Charleston and Pecos.

Investigators believe a group of men took matters into their own hands when a woman was sexually assaulted.

“He held her against her own will,” says a witness who requested anonymity. “And that's when we tried to force this guy out of that cabin, and he wouldn't come out. So we all went over there and got him.”

The witness says a woman was screaming for help from inside a shed.

At least seven people rushed to help.

“I felt it was my duty yesterday to defend this lady,” said the witness. “And that's what happened. I didn't know this guy was going to die, but he did.”

He said he didn't see or even know the man had been stabbed.

“It happened after I left,” he explains. “I went my own way. Everybody else went their own way, but I didn't know the guy stabbed him at the last minute.”

Amairani Rangel works in a smokehouse a few steps from the stage.

He says a customer came to tell him what happened.

“I was here cleaning the store and I saw a cop coming,” she said.

Rangel calls it a scary situation but isn't worried about his safety in the neighborhood.

“It was all done with good intentions,” she says. “It’s sad that someone has to pass away.”

As for the police, they say the investigation is only just beginning and hopes that witnesses will come forward.

“We also look at surveillance footage,” says LVMPD homicide Lt. Jason Johannson. “The men who came to his aid are gone. We don't know who they are, but we are taking steps to identify them so we can question them and verify everything that happened.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.

“I have nieces, I have nephews, I have a daughter,” says the witness. “I would hate for that to happen to them. So from a man's point of view, it was up to us to defend her like that, and that's what happened.”
