EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) — All beaches in north suburban Evanston were closed to swimmers Monday afternoon as police and firefighters searched the water after receiving reports of a swimmer in difficulty.

But early Monday evening, police said those reports were likely unfounded.

All Evanston beaches were closed to swimmers while rescue teams searched the water.

At the time the swimmer was reported missing, conditions on Lake Michigan were relatively calm, with waves only a few feet high.
