Rescuer, teen arrested in getaway car a month after armed robbery

A rescuer and a teenager now face multiple charges after police intercepted a fleeing car a month after a robbery in St Elizabeth.

Items believed to have been stolen during a robbery at a store on Main Street in Santa Cruz in May were found in the vehicle, police said.

Fitzroy Hasting, 23, a lifeguard from the West End, Negril and Little London district of Westmoreland, is charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and receiving stolen goods. teenager who also comes from the Little London neighborhood.

According to police reports, around 3 p.m. on May 7, the complainants were at the store when Hasting and the teen allegedly entered the establishment, armed with handguns, and demanded money.

Police said the two men robbed the complainants of their iPhones and Samsung tablets worth J$2,000,000.

The suspects then fled the scene in a waiting Toyota Axio car.

Police said that on June 4, the vehicle was seen and stopped by officers.

A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed items reported stolen in May.

The rescuer and teen were taken to the station and police said the complainants identified the stolen items and named the suspects.

They were then charged after a question-and-answer session.

A court date is being finalized for both men, police said.
