Report of shots fired on Botts Lane near Petersburg

FIVE leads the way, and we'll bring you to this latest news in just a moment. BUT FIRST, HOT AND HUMID WITH POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT. THANK YOU FOR JOINING AT NOON. My name is Ashley Kirklen and Katie. WE ARE DRY FOR NOW BUT STORMS COULD IMPACT PLANS FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. ABSOLUTELY. WE ARE SO CONSIDERING SEVERAL TOURS. We are looking at a system tonight. It really depends on whether or not that line holds tonight. BUT THESE COULD POTENTIALLY ARRIVE IN OUR AREA LATE THIS EVENING. THEN WE WILL TALK ABOUT IT. Until then, you'll need to start thinking about your plans for Sunday. THIS WILL BE OUR WEATHER ALERT DAY HERE IN CINCINNATI. WE ARE MONITORING ALL SEVERE WEATHER PATTERNS AS A VERY STRONG IMPACT SYSTEM ON THE MIDWEST. So we're going to focus on that through the show today. RIGHT NOW WE'RE LOOKING AT THE 74. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL QUIET AFTERNOON. WE HAVE VERY SUMMER SUN, LIGHT BREEZES A LITTLE HUMID OUTSIDE TOO. BUT NOTICE RETURNING TO THE NORTH AND WEST HERE, A VERY STRONG LINE OF STORMS IS CROSSING THIS REGION THIS MORNING. IOWA AND THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY STILL ARE SEEING SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCHES. So we have this stronger system to the west. We're going to keep an eye on that because eventually it's going to head inland. MANY MODELS HAVE THIS HAPPENING HERE, BUT POTENTIAL FOR AT LEAST A FEW SHOWERS, MAYBE A FEW Rumbles OF THUNDER AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT. AGAIN, A LINE OF WEAKENING STORMS HERE. SO PART OF THE AREA UNDER THE LOWEST RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR TODAY. Again, I think by the time it gets here, the severe weather opportunities will be pretty low, but it's definitely something we're going to keep a close eye on as we go through this night. THE 12 HOUR FORECAST THROUGH TODAY SHOWS A NICE DRY SKY, BUT I WILL SAY AROUND 8, NINE, EVEN 10:00 P.M. TONIGHT MAY START TO SEE A FEW SHOWERS AND STORMS IN THE AREA. AND AGAIN THIS COULD CONTINUE DURING THE EVENING TONIGHT. So we are monitoring this potential this evening. BUT BIGGER LUCK ON SUNDAY, I THINK SATURDAY IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY DECENT DAY. BUT SUNDAY WEATHER ALERT DAY FOR US HERE. IT'S THE RED ICON. WE ARE EXAMINING ALL PATTERNS OF SEVERE WEATHER LOOKS LIKE A MID-AFTERNOON EVENT POTENTIALLY LASTING THROUGH THE EVENING AND NIGHT. We're going to take a look at this system and how it impacts your Memorial Day weekend plans. COMING SOON, ASHLEY. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH KATIE. AND MORE NEWS. THE STRONG SMELL OF GAS LEFT THE XAVIER CAMPUS IN A VERY EMPTY THIS NOON TIME. WLWT NEWS FIVE'S TODD – IS LIVE WITH THE LATEST NEWS OF WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW IN EVANSTON. TODD. Yeah, so you know what started out as a pretty quiet Friday here at X because of summer vacation, and now especially quiet because of what's called a major gas leak. Campus officials sent out an alert around 9:15-9:20 a.m. this morning, saying Xavier was closing for the day. THE ALERT ADVISED UNIVERSITY WORKERS AND ANY STUDENTS WHO WERE STILL ON CAMPUS TO AVOID THE ACADEMIC CENTER WHEN LEAVING. Now it appears a work crew hit a high-pressure gas line near Schmidt Hall, behind the MCDONALD Memorial Library and near the Coninton Learning Center, or CTC. We spoke to a woman who was walking away from the scene. SHE DESCRIBED HOW THE SITUATION DEVELOPED THIS MORNING. An email was sent from the building coordinator and her office is on the first floor and she smells gas. So she sent an email to everyone in the building. COMMUNICATION WAS REALLY FAST. YEAH. WHAT DID THEY TELL YOU WAS GOING ON? It's like we smell gas. We smelled gasoline at McDonald's. It's my colleague, videographer Brandon. OOB. Asking this woman these questions, you know, and him and I, you know, there's no real sense of panic this morning. Um, a little different when you hear the word evacuation, you might think, okay, they're going to be stationed by the police at different points of entry, the fire department and so on. WE REALLY HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OF THIS. That's some good news in all of this, I've been in communication with Duke Energy. It appears the crew that hit the gas lines is not affiliated with Duke, another contractor. BUT DUKE IS ON STAGE NOW AND MAKING THE REPAIRS CAN'T SAY WHEN IT WILL BE DONE. BUT THE GAS LINE, BUT TO ME, WAS CUT OFF, SO NO DANGER AT THIS POINT BECAUSE THE GAS LINES CUT OFF. And I think maybe that's why it didn't escalate into a situation where everyone was scrambling to get off campus. It was a lot quieter, a lot tidier, and now, just to mend the line, I'll be reporting live here in Evanston, Todd — W News Five. Alright, TODD, thanks for the update. NOW WE WANT TO GIVE YOU MORE BREAKING NEWS, THIS TIME IN MADISONVILLE, CINCINNATI POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING, THIS HAPPENING ON MADISON ROAD, NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF KENWOOD ROAD, IN MADISONVILLE. WLWT NEWS FIVE'S DANIELLE DINDAK IS ON THE SCENE NOW. AND, DANIELLE, WHERE ARE YOU LEARNING? Yeah, Ashley, in the last few minutes we received an update from the police. NOW POLICE TELL US A 39 YEAR OLD MAN WAS SHOT SEVERAL TIMES. NOW ALL OF HIS INJURIES ARE NON-LIFE THREATENING AND HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO UC MEDICAL CENTER. BUT I'm going to digress so you can get an idea of the scene and what we're looking at right now. I can tell you that the police have placed several evidence markers. THE MOST WE'VE SEEN IS UP TO 19 EVIDENCE MARKERS. The police are still there to take photos as it is still very early in the investigation. But police say two suspects walked toward that building and shot a victim. ANOTHER PERSON WAS ALSO INJURED BY A BROKEN GLASS. That person drove the shot man to the hospital. Now, as you can see, it's still very early in the investigation. BUT POLICE SAY THEY'RE LOOKING FOR TWO SUSPECTS. AS SOON AS WE OBTAIN NEW DETAILS ON THESE SUSPECTS OR ANY POTENTIAL NAMES RELATED TO THIS CASE, WE WILL MAKE SURE TO UPDATE YOU BOTH ON THE AIR AND ONLINE. BUT ONCE AGAIN, A 39 YEAR OLD MAN WAS SHOT SEVERAL TIMES IN THIS BUILDING BEHIND ME. ALL OF HIS INJURIES ARE NOT LIFE THREATENING. ANOTHER PERSON WAS INJURED BY A BROKEN GLASS, THIS PERSON WAS ALSO TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AS SOON AS WE GET NEW DETAILS, WE WILL MAKE SURE TO UPDATE YOU BOTH ON AIR AND LIVE ONLINE REPORTS
