Repeat offender arrested for New Bedford stabbing

NEW BEDFORD — A repeat offender was taken into custody June 27 after turning himself in following a stabbing in North End earlier in the month, police said.

Detectives charged Samuel Rodriguez, 38, with assault with a dangerous weapon causing bodily injury after an investigation into the June 14 incident.

Patrol units responded to a call on Harvard St. in the Brickenwood housing development, where they found an adult male with multiple stab wounds.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed to hospital and is currently recovering.

Detective Matthew Sylvia led the investigation which led to the identification of Rodriguez, who resides at 195 Amanda Ave.

After probable cause was established, an arrest warrant was issued.

Rodriguez has a lengthy criminal record, including 70 adult charges and various convictions such as trafficking heroin, illegal possession of a firearm and assault and battery on a police officer.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
