Repeat DUI offender arrested in Roberts County, SD after vehicle crash | Local News

{KXLG – Roberts County, SD} Roberts County law enforcement responded to reports of a vehicle crash on County Road 19, also known as Mud Lake Rd, near the intersection with Co Rd 7 or Lake Rd. Upon arrival, officers found a person, later identified as Joyce F. White, in an extremely intoxicated state behind the wheel of the crashed vehicle.

Despite his refusal to exit the vehicle, additional units arrived and officers were able to assess White's condition. It was determined that her level of intoxication was so severe that she could not perform field sobriety tests or walk without assistance. Officers also found marijuana on his clothing, inside the vehicle and open containers of alcohol.

After receiving medical advice, White was taken into custody. Notably, this arrest follows a previous DUI incident in May 2024, during which White also crashed his vehicle into a ditch. An active warrant for her arrest had been issued in Roberts County in connection with this prior DUI charge.

Local authorities expressed gratitude to the public for reporting such disturbing behavior and recalled additional patrols underway for drunk driving. They warn that those who choose to drive under the influence can expect to run into law enforcement.

The assistance of the Traverse County Sheriff's Office in this case was acknowledged.
