Renukaswamy was allegedly given electric shocks and branded with hot metal before being killed.

Police investigations revealed that Renukaswamy, who was allegedly tortured and killed by a gang including actor Darshan, was not only beaten but also given electric shocks and branded with hot metal.

Police sources said the accused who tortured Renukaswamy at a shed in RR Nagar, allegedly for sending obscene messages to Pavitra Gowda, a close friend of Darshan, might have used a water heater coil to administer shocks and mark the victim. The autopsy revealed related injuries, sources said. The victim was also kicked in the private parts and his head was hit against a goods rickshaw.

Meanwhile, an Additional Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Saturday extended the police custody of Darshan and his 12 associates by five days. Their police custody was due to end on Sunday, the police presented them before the magistrate on Saturday.

Special public prosecutor Prasanna Kumar sought a nine-day extension of the police custody, arguing that police needed more time to make more recoveries. He said the police have so far recovered 10 mobile phones and ₹30 lakh in cash from the accused, besides carrying out investigation. maazar crime scenes. Police need more time to analyze CCTV camera footage from several locations and recover the weapons used to commit the crime – various items used to assault and torture the victim, he said. City police submitted an update to the investigation in a sealed envelope.

Meanwhile, Anil Babu, the defense lawyer, while seeking judicial custody, alleged that two of the accused, Nandish and Deepak, were tortured by the police while in police custody. The court, however, remanded all the accused in police custody for five more days.

Journalist attacked in court premises

A journalist with The new Indian Express who had gone to the Nrupatunga Road court complex here, was allegedly assaulted and deprived of his mobile phone on Saturday. The incident allegedly took place outside the court while the hearing in the Renukaswamy murder case was underway.

The journalist, identified as Rakshith, was waiting outside the courtroom to get an update on the hearing. A group of men approached him and reportedly asked him if he was a journalist. When he responded in the affirmative, the group of men allegedly beat him, snatched his mobile phone and fled the scene. Mr. Rakshith, who sustained injuries to his face and lips, managed to escape the attackers and went to the Halasuru Gate police station where he lodged a complaint. The police registered an uncognizable report and did not lodge an FIR.
