Kautilya.SinghDehradun: The state government has identified five rivers – Song (Dehradun-Tehri), Eastern and Western Nayar (Pauri), Shipra (Nainital) and Gaudi (Champawat) – for long-term treatment in the first phase of its river treatment program. at the inaugural meeting of the Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARRA) on Monday. Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan directed the authorities to identify depleting water sources, rivers and streams to initiate remedial works involving all concerned departments. He said the proposals should be reviewed by all relevant departments before approval by the committee and feedback from these departments should be collated. Bardhan said the need for a project evaluation mechanism, deployment of dedicated staff for evaluation and monitoring and categorization of work to be done at state and district levels, with annual targets. He said the annual action plan for this financial year is expected to be prepared and submitted within the next month. He highlighted the importance of public awareness and active participation to achieve successful revitalization of rivers and water sources through rainwater conservation.
