Registration is now open for the Sheriff's Community Academy

Nevada City, CA – This August marks the return of the fourth annual Community Academy, a free 12-week course offered annually by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office that provides community members with the opportunity to learn about the role law enforcement plays in the community while giving participants a deeper understanding of their own Nevada County Sheriff's Office.

“The primary goal of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office Community Academy is to give our community a better image of its law enforcement agency. Students in the class will be exposed to information and experiences that are not typically available to the general public,” explained Annica Hagadorn, assistant reserve and senior lecturer. “Students will see real evidence collected at crime scenes, explore vehicles and equipment used in major incidents, learn how to search for fingerprints, and most importantly, gain a deeper understanding of the Sheriff's Office and the justice system as a whole. »

Although the course is not designed to prepare students for a future career in law enforcement, it has been beneficial to students considering career options in criminal justice and to those seeking to expand their knowledge personal and their understanding of law enforcement.
