Redding man arrested on gun charges following child sex abuse investigation | News

SHASTA COUNTY, CA. – A Redding man was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of an assault weapon and possession of high-capacity magazines following a child sex abuse investigation, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office said .

Around 8 a.m., detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office AB109 Compliance Team and the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force assisted Homeland Security Investigations in a search for assault material sexual assault on children, the sheriff's office said.

The person of interest in the investigation was Timothy Carl Guinn, 52, the sheriff's office said. The search warrant was served in the 20000 block of Soudan Lane in Redding.

Twelve firearms were located during the search, the sheriff's office said. One of the weapons, an AR-15-style rifle, was determined to not meet California standards, the sheriff's office said.

The rifle's characteristics make it an assault weapon, the sheriff's office said. Detectives and HSI agents also found high-capacity firearm magazines and ammunition inside the home.

Then, the sheriff's office authorized a separate search warrant so they could seize the weapons and items associated with them, the sheriff's office said.

Guinn was arrested at the scene and transported to the Shasta County Jail. The Shasta County Prosecutor's Office may file additional firearms charges against Guinn.

The Homeland Security Investigations investigation was separate from the Sheriff's Office case, so at this time there are no updates regarding the material child sexual assault case.
