Recovery underway after reported drowning in Neuse River, Wake County officials say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Crews from a previous water rescue on the Neuse River are now involved in a recovery mission in Wake County, east of Raleigh, Saturday evening, officials said.

A drowning call came in around 4 p.m. in a section of the river just north of New Bern Avenue/US 64 Business, according to a news release from the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the call took place in the river near the Neuse River Greenway Trail and Loch Raven Parkway. This is the second recovery in the same stretch of river in the past three weeks, after a man in his 20s drowned in the Neuse.

“This is an active search and several local agencies are on scene assisting the Wake County Sheriff’s Office,” the news release said around 5:05 p.m.
