Reading police are asking for the public's help in identifying individuals involved in the pagoda incident

The City of Reading Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying several individuals present during a significant disturbance at the Pagoda Saturday evening, June 8.

Police say the incident began around 8:05 p.m. when officers, engaged in an illegal dirt bike initiative, responded to reports of a large group of motorcyclists, ATVs and motorcyclists causing a disturbance at the pagoda. The crowd was estimated at more than 200 people.

A Reading police officer who arrived first on the scene attempted to apprehend a suspect for a criminal act (which police did not specify), which was immediately met with resistance. Tensions further escalated as other individuals in the crowd intervened, and at least one other person attacked the officer. Despite multiple bruises and a nosebleed, the policeman managed to call for reinforcements. Eleven additional officers quickly arrived to help disperse the crowd.

The suspect, identified as Lewis Mellow Castillo of the 900 block of Reading, was arrested and now faces several charges. Police are now focusing on identifying the other people involved.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Reading Police Department at 610-655-6116 or Berks Crime Alert at 1-877-373-9913. Information may be provided anonymously.
